Dahnish Shams is dedicated to advancing safer consumer products and reducing harmful chemical exposures for communities across California. He supports the implementation of the Safer Consumer Products (SCP) Program at the California Department of Toxic Substances Control (DTSC), leading communications initiatives, building public trust through partnerships and collaboration, and raising awareness of the program’s mission.
Dahnish brings more than a decade of experience in environmental health, risk assessment, and program management. He has led and supported multidisciplinary teams developing human health assessments, managed government research and program portfolios, and provided strategic direction on high-profile science and policy issues. His work frequently involves translating complex scientific findings into actionable policies and clear communications for decision-makers, industry, academia, and the public.
Before joining the State of California, Dahnish held several leadership and advisory roles at the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). There, he contributed to national efforts related to chemical assessments and environmental health, supporting research planning and implementation, budget execution, and program operations. He also served in acting leadership roles where he supervised staff, coordinated a chemical assessment portfolio, and supported organizational priorities.
