Vanessa Fiene serves as the Extended Producer Responsibility Compliance Specialist for the
Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment (CDPHE). She began this role in
November of 2025, and is the first to serve in this position for the department.

Prior to joining CDPHE, Vanessa spent over 18 years in local public health, specializing in
environmental health and regulatory compliance. Her experience included conducting
risk-based inspections across a wide range of programs, including retail food establishments,
childcare facilities, onsite wastewater treatment systems, and recreational water venues. In
addition to her inspection and enforcement work, Vanessa led efforts in Household Hazardous
waste (HHW) programs. There, she supported safe collection and disposal efforts while serving
as the volunteer coordinator for local HHW events, overseeing logistics and volunteer
engagement.

Vanessa brings a solutions-oriented mindset to her work in Colorado’s Extended Producer
Responsibility program with a focus on building effective partnerships to achieve sustainable
and successful outcomes.
