Shari Franjevic is driven to replace toxic chemicals with safer alternatives. Shari leads the
implementation of the Toxic-Free Cosmetics Act for Washington’s Department of Ecology. She guides
education and outreach about the law and engagement with interested parties. She also serves as the
technical lead for rulemaking and the design of initiatives and tools to support businesses in
transitioning from restricted chemicals to safer chemicals and products.
Shari brings her expertise in sustainable chemistry and toxics reduction to the role, as well as almost two
decades of experience working with NGOs, industry, and government agencies supporting the market
transition to replace toxic chemicals with safer alternatives.
For almost ten years, Shari served as GreenScreen Program Manager for the non-profit organization
Clean Production Action (CPA), where she set strategic direction, led design and implementation
chemical hazard assessment tools and product certifications, and developed and delivered educational
programs. Prior to CPA, Shari worked in the business sector both as a consultant and chemical engineer.
As a consultant, she worked with NGO, government, and business clients to develop strategies, tools,
and training on green and sustainable chemistry and chemical stewardship and its value and use in
advocacy, regulation, and safer product design. Shari started her career at Procter & Gamble, where she
designed consumer products and manufacturing processes. Shari earned her B.S. in Chemical
Engineering from the University of Wisconsin.
