Shannon Jones is a part of the Washington Department of Ecology’s effort to reduce plastic pollution and increase material circularity in packaging. She leads the implementation of the post-consumer recycled content law. She also serves as Ecology’s point person on other plastic waste issues and pollution reduction efforts.

With a ten year career in solid waste, hazardous waste, and materials management with both the State of Tennessee and Washington State, Shannon efforts have guided local governments in improving waste reduction infrastructure and outreach, decreased contamination in recycling, partnered with industry and key stakeholders on policy solutions, and assisted businesses to comply with state and federal waste handling and reduction regulations.

Shannon is an advisory council member on the U.S. Plastics Pact, a conglomerate of businesses, not-for-profit organizations, government agencies, and research institutions working toward a common vision for a circular economy for plastics through accountability, design guidance, policy recommendation, research, and industry collaboration.

Shannon earned her B.S. in Ecology and Biodiversity from Sewanee University, and her M.S. in Sustainable Practices from Lipscomb University. She resides in Tacoma, Washington and continues to work with industry partners to better understand supply chain challenges and identify opportunities for packaging re-design, material reuse, increased recyclability, and increased consumer awareness.
